Nutrition
What is nattokinase?
It is an enzyme associated with natto fermentation and sold in supplement form. Whole food and supplements should not be treated as interchangeable evidence or substituted for prescribed medicine.
Does natto prevent heart disease?
This library does not establish that. Observational food studies and supplement trials answer different questions. Some claims go well beyond the evidence; read the study-specific limitations.
Will natto fix my gut?
We cannot promise that. A small fermented-food diet study is not a trial proving that natto alone treats a gut condition. Persistent symptoms belong in a conversation with a qualified clinician.
Is it suitable for everyone?
No single food is suitable for everyone. Soy allergy and some medicines matter here. In particular, people using warfarin should ask their prescriber before changing vitamin K intake.
What is vitamin K2?
K2 refers to a group of vitamin K forms called menaquinones. A nutrient’s role in the body is not proof that eating one food prevents a disease. See the NIH resource and our research context.
What allergens should I check?
Natto contains soy. Accompaniments may add wheat, sesame, egg, fish or other allergens. Read all labels and follow your clinician’s advice about any diagnosed allergy.
