A lively rice bowl with cool cucumber alongside.

A small invitation

Use the amount of natto that suits your taste. Set out the other ingredients first, then assemble just before eating. The serving controls scale ingredient quantities, not food-safety instructions or cooking times.

Make it your own

Contains soy and sesame. Kimchi can contain fish or shellfish; check the actual product. Choose a clearly labeled vegan kimchi when needed.

Here’s how.

  1. Divide freshly cooked rice between two bowls.
  2. Prepare natto according to its label.
  3. Add natto, kimchi and cucumber in separate areas so you can adjust each bite.
  4. Finish with sesame and serve promptly.
