Check compatibility before buying.

A container, thermometer, heat source and cooking equipment may each have a role. Their exact specifications come from the selected starter method and the appliance manufacturers, not from a generic shopping list.

Temperature control

Confirm the appliance can maintain the required conditions and that you can verify them. A device marketed for yogurt or rice is not automatically suitable for every fermentation method.

Food-contact containers

Use containers suitable for the process and follow their cleaning and temperature limits. An attractive glass-jar image is not a recommendation to ferment natto in a sealed jar.

A small purchase plan

List what you already own, what the method explicitly requires, and which compatibility question remains unanswered. Ask the supplier before buying an optional gadget.

Tools, ingredients, guidance.
